It’s cold out which means a whiskey is a great way to warm up after a long day of work or a fun weekend of skiing. Here are our top 5 favorite spots to grab a whiskey that’s a little more unique then a Jack and Coke.
Axe and Oak Whiskey House

Axe and Oak is one of our favorites. They make all the whiskey locally and use the bar to showcase all the liquors they make. With one of the most unique Old Fashion menus in the Springs it is a must try if you are in the area. We recommend trying the Tobacco, Apple, or Black Walnut Old Fashion if you stop by!
They also offer other liquors, cigars, and a rotating seasonal menu to keep it interesting. Check out their website for a list of upcoming live music.
If you are in the industry they have great deals each Tuesday for Industry night featuring $3 shots and 50% off cocktails. For the rest of us, stop by during Happy Hour (Open to 6pm) for $7 Classic Cocktails.

Cork and Cask

Cork and Cask is the Colorado Springs’ location for hard to find and unique whiskeys. Looking for a rare American whiskey bottle? Japanese? Irish? They’ve got it all! This is not your average bar, but a more upscale experience. While the old antique trolley house might not look it from the outside, you will step into a whole new world inside. With one of the best collections in the Springs, fun and colorful décor, and even a great food list you can’t go wrong here!
If you need a cocktail while reading through the long list of whiskey, we really enjoyed the Bourbon Punch. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and can help guide you depending what you are looking for.

District Elleven

District Elleven will make you feel like you just stepped back in time. Located behind a giant safe door at the back of T-Byrds Tacos in true Speak Easy fashion. It’s not uncommon to find the staff dressed in 1920s style clothes playing music of the era while keeping the vibe fun and energetic. The entire place is covered in unique art as well as different local artists that they feature.
The whiskey collection here is also pretty fantastic. If you really want a unique experience order the “Trust me I’m a Bartender” which lets the knowledgeable staff create something off menu designed to your taste. I have never had the same thing when I’ve ordered this and its always been fantastic. Otherwise, check out the Happy Hour week days 4-6pm for $6 Old Fashions.
With the bar not advertising with signs, it is usually a much more calm and chill vibe inside vs your more well known bars and destinations. A great place for a date night or to relax after work.

Distillery 291

If you like local made whiskey, Distillery 291 is another great spot to check out. They keep many of their Special Reserve whiskeys that you won’t find out in the stores in their tasting room. They also offer tours and tastings that can be booked if you want to learn more about the process. The tasting room and lounge is open to the public and often has live music or special events happening that you are welcome to join.
One of my favorite in their collection is the “HR”. This whiskey, I was explained to by the founder, was made by mistake with a miscommunication between him and the head distiller but turned out to be one of their favorites. Give it a try if you go, its well worth it!
While not the fanciest of bars on the list, the owner and distiller are often hanging around the tasting room. Everyone is very welcoming and will happily answer any questions you might have. A solid spot to grab a drink and relax.
Shame and Regret

I debated adding this as it’s not specifically a whiskey bar, but it does have a decent selection. You might not find the rare stuff here, but they still have an impressive collection from around the world. However, what they do have is some amazing cocktails. If you are looking for a place to take someone that might not enjoy whiskey as much as you, this is a great choice.
They do boast an impressive 110 types of American whiskey and 120 types of Scotch. All located in the gothic décor that is Shame and Regret. Located in a downtown ally with a glowing neon sign to guide you, this is one of the few locations open late (till 2am everyday!).
I recommend the “Alter Ego” if looking for a unique whiskey drink featuring Bourbon, Branca Menta, Crème de Cacao, Borghetti, Chocolate Bitters, Mint.

Conclusion
Colorado Springs is no stranger to good whiskey. While there are several other great bars that didn’t make it to this list, these are the ones I’ve found myself and those I know typically going to the most. I’ve tried to keep the list varied with options including the upscale atmosphere of Cork and Cask, the late night hangout of Shame and Regret, the speak easy District Elleven, and the more relaxed tasting rooms of Axe and Oak and Distillery 291. I hope this list will help you find a good drink!
